Russian police and interior ministry have started distributing pamphlets to warn citizens about some of the dangers of taking selfies. This pamphlet comes after a string of accidents involving young people taking pictures including a 21-year-old woman who shot herself in the head and a teenager who died taking a selfie on train tracks. The pamphlet covers a handful of dangerous situations based on actual incidents, such as selfies with wild animals or selfies around live wires or construction sites, and will be distributed to students and the general public. The Russian officials said in a press conference, “We would like to remind the citizens that the chase for ‘likes’ in social networks can lead to the road of death.” Remember folks, there is no amount of likes on Instagram that are worth risking your life no matter how cool you think you look.
