Get rid of your Christmas tree for free at MulchFest
Every holiday tree can be a giving tree, thanks to the city's MulchFest program. New Yorkers can drop off their trees (sans tinsel, lights and decorations) at locations around the five boroughs this week where they will find a second life as mulch for city parks.
Christmas Trees
Composting: Weather permitting, DSNY will collect and compost clean Christmas trees left at the curb from Tuesday, January 2, 2018 through Saturday, January 13, 2018. The trees are chipped, mixed with leaves, and recycled into rich compost for NYC's parks, institutions, and community gardens.
