On-Air: Mike Shannon

“Straight with no chaser, but easy to take” is a great way to describe Mike Shannon! Comical and outspoken, Mike has taken his love of radio and communication from his hometown of Boston all the way to the no. 1 market in the world – New York City – with a three year layover in Detroit, MI.

“I started doing radio more or less for fun while a student at Northeastern University,” he recalls. “I quickly rose through the ranks at the university’s radio station, WRBB, and when I began to see my contemporaries get jobs in commercial radio I decided that I wanted to do that too.”

After further sharpening his skills on WERS, the student run radio station at Emerson College, Mike got his first gig in commercial radio at WILD Boston. From there it was on to WJLB Detroit and finally, in the summer of 1994, Mike landed his dream job at the legendary 98.7 KISS FM in New York, where he stayed for 18 years until the station’s demise in 2012.

An avid music lover, Mike is a perfect fit for Radio 103.9 and is looking forward to big things as he gives you New York’s Best Mix of R&B!
